The Alpine Challenge

The Alpine Challenge is widely regarded as Australia’s toughest and most spectacular mountain-trail run. Starting from the alpine village base, the event weaves runners through rugged terrain, taking in multiple major peaks including towering alpine mountains, steep ridgelines and wild valleys. With the ultimate option of a 100-mile (≈160 km) course, runners face epic elevation — thousands of metres of climb and descent — across some of the highest and most remote country Victoria has to offer.
For those seeking less extreme but still challenging adventure, the event offers a full range of distance options: 100 km, 60 km, marathon (42 km), plus shorter courses around 10–25 km — meaning it welcomes everyone from ultra-endurance runners to first-time alpine trail-goers. The shorter courses wind through forests, alpine meadows, high-plains and historic huts, giving a taste of the wild beauty in a more accessible way.
What makes the Alpine Challenge special is its blend of raw wilderness, physical test and shared adventure. Whether you’re pushing your limits on the ultra course or soaking in alpine air on a 10 km trail, it’s an event that celebrates endurance, landscape and the spirit of mountain running.
