Back to the 1950’s Festival

The Back to the 1950s Festival will be held from Friday 2 October to Sunday 4 October 2026 across Chiltern and Barnawartha, VIC 3683, celebrating the music, fashion and motoring culture of the 1950s. Events take place at various locations throughout the historic townships, with activities centred around 30 Main Street, Chiltern, and along the iconic Old Highway 31 that connects the two communities.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can step back in time and enjoy a lively program of retro-themed entertainment. Expect vintage car and motorcycle displays, classic vehicle cruises between Barnawartha and Chiltern, rock and roll dancing, fashion parades and nostalgic film screenings at Chiltern’s historic Star Theatre. The festival celebrates the golden era of the 1950s, with plenty of opportunities to admire classic chrome, vintage style and lively rock ’n’ roll performances.
Markets, live music, demonstrations and community activities help create a fun, family-friendly atmosphere across the weekend. With locals and visitors often dressing in period fashion, the event transforms the streets into a colourful throwback to a bygone era. Whether you’re passionate about classic vehicles, retro culture or simply looking for a unique regional festival experience, Back to the 1950s offers a memorable weekend in Victoria’s High Country.
