Alpine Light Gallery is the home of works from award-winning landscape photographers Mieke Boynton and Matt Palmer (M&M).
They are driven to capture nature’s beauty, and in Alpine Victoria that beauty abounds. Mount Buffalo continually provides inspiration along with the rest of the Victorian alps which are at their most beautiful when covered in snow.

First Light on the Cathedral

“The image brings back memories of one of my first experiences of Tubberlungener Mount Buffalo in its wild Winter Coat. To capture a scene like this, Mieke and I are up while it’s still dark, putting chains on our vehicle before sunrise, and making sure we are ready for the first light to make its mark on the landscape as seen here on the Catherdral.
We positioned ourselves in the valley below, where a smooth blanket of snow calmly covered all but the most active streams, exploring compositions and the lower foliage. Despite having waterproof boots on, I managed to put my foot straight through the snow into waters hidden below! The adrenaline of photographing and the physical exercise of moving through the snow kept me warm long enough to capture the Cathedral reflected in one of those streams. The image to me is serene, and the warm reflection of the formation above draws a viewer into the subtle foreground textures of the snow.” Matt Palmer.
